Essential Kit for Your Stove Installation
If you're installing a wood burning or multi-fuel stove for the first time, or if your stove isn't the only equipment that needs replacing, we can provide the essential accessories you need at competitive prices.
Liner
If your house has a chimney, you'll need a new chimney liner, the flexible metal tubing that connects your stove to the fresh air so that smoke and gases are safely expelled from your home. We sell it by the metre, so you'll need to measure up first. If you're going to be burning a lot of smokeless fuel, we recommend the 904 grade chimney liner and if you are predominantly burning wood then go for the 316 grade.
Make sure you get the right diameter for your stove, either 5-inch/125mm or 6-inch/150mm. The liner diameter must not be narrower than the stove outlet diameter and you can only use 5"/125mm chimney liner if you have a Defra-approved stove with a 52/125mm outlet. If the stove is not
If you don't have a chimney, you'll need a twin-wall installation, meaning that your flue pipe will go up from your stove either through the ceiling to the roof or through an external wall and up the side of your property to the rooftop. Your stove installer will supply the twin-wall pipe system.
Cowl
For safety and efficiency, you need a chimney cowl, which will help gas and smoke to escape, stop rain from falling down the chimney and damaging the liner, and prevent animals or debris from getting into the chimney. A cowl reduces the wind pressure outside so that air doesn't get pushed down the chimney when the wind is strong. A healthy updraught is essential because if smoke and gases from your stove can't readily escape, they'll build up inside your home and harmful smoke and carbon monoxide could start to leak out through the seals.
Flue, Register Plate and Masonry Adapter
You cannot connect a chimney liner directly to the top or back of a stove. Your stove needs to connect to a length of flue pipe which will be connected to the chimney liner by the MA Adapter, sometimes described as a stove-to-liner adapter or a flex adapter. The flue pipe is made from rigid metal and passes through a register plate or blanking plate, which seals off the chimney opening. Like the chimney liner and flues, these come in two sizes for 5"/125mm register plate kits and 6"/150mm register plate kits.
You can find everything you need to know about the parts required for installing a stove in our DIY Guides section where you can watch a short video of Stove World UK's founder, Karl Thompson, demonstrating the kit you'll need.
